What Is a Nootropic?

The term refers to natural or synthetic chemicals that might have an impact on mental skills. They can be dietary supplements, synthetic compounds, or prescription drugs. Examples of nootropic prescription drugs are Ritalin, a stimulant used to treat ADHD or Memantine, a medication for dementia.

Cognitive enhancers to boost intelligence, creativity, and motivation are a significant advantage in today’s competitive atmosphere. You might hear them called “smart drugs”but they are far more than that.

The word nootropic comes from Greek roots: “nous”, which means mind, and “ tropin”, which means to turn or bend (like a river).

Common features of Nootropics

For a chemical compound to be considered a nootropic, it needs to meet specific criteria. In general, an acceptable nootropic

  • Enhances memory
  • Improves reactions under stress
  • Protects the brain from physical or chemical injury
  • Improves cortical/subcortical control
  • Has low toxicity or side-effects

Synthetic compounds following these criteria are of recent invention, but ancient medical traditions of China and India indicate uses of cannabis, ginkgo biloba, and other herbs for just these reasons.

Why is Pramiracetam Popular?

Pramiracetam is part of the racetam family, a group of synthetic compounds that share a pyrrolidone nucleus. Drugs in this family are anticonvulsants, memory, and concentration enhancers.

Pramiracetam positively affects the acquisition of memories. Research indicates that it is neuroprotective. Unlike many drugs in the racetam family, its efficacy was tested on healthy adults. Most racetam compounds were tested on seniors already in decline.

It is a powerful nootropic with long-lasting effects that build over time. Some evidence indicates that it may help with traumatic brain injuries.

Pramiracetam Description

Pramiracetam(N-[2-[di(propan-2-yl) amino] ethyl]-2-(2-oxopyrrolidin-1-yl) acetamide, CI-879, Pramistar, Neupramir, Remen) is a fat-soluble nootropic in the racetam-class of compounds.

Pramiracetam(CAS: 68497-62-1) has shown to be effective in the treatment of cognitive disorders of cerebrovascular and traumatic origins. Tests on humans with impaired memory have shown that Pramiracetam is able to enhance memory. Although there are no studies proving that this is the case in healthy young humans, many reported of feeling the effects of improved memory and recollection. An explanation as to why Pramiracetam enhances memory, is that it has shown to increase high-affinity choline uptake.

Scientifically, Choline a precursor molecule for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, very similar to a vitamin and is an essential nutrient. Choline can be found in some plants and animal organs or milk. Having a balanced diet and thus a sufficient supply of choline together with supplementing racetams like Pramiracetam that maximize the choline uptake, may have a positive effect on memory.

Pramiracetam is a synthesized racetam molecule with structural similarities to the parent molecule Piracetam. It was first synthesized in 1984 for its potential to prevent amnesia originating from electrocution. Compared to other members of the racetam family, Pramiracetam is less researched but has evidence of its benefit in humans.

In studies, Pramiracetam seemed to be effective when taken shortly prior testing which might make it ideal for supplementing during academical examination or work intensive phases where improved memory and cognitive functions come in handy. Human studies support this thought but do not provide sufficient statistical evidence to this day.

Pramiracetam Mechanism of Action

Like all racetams, the mechanisms behind pramiracetam are not fully understood, primarily due to a lack of extensive research.

However, some early studies have pointed towards a few of the following potential mechanisms:

▪ May increase acetylcholine levels (by increasing choline uptake into cells by 30-37%);

▪ May increase nitric oxide production in the brain;

▪ May involve adrenal hormones such as aldosterone and cortisol (corticosterone);

However, data about the above mechanisms comes almost exclusively from animal studies – predominantly in rats and mice – and so no strong conclusions can be made yet about pramiracetam’s potential mechanisms in the brains of healthy human users.

Pramiracetam Benefits

Pramiracetam is a true nootropic, created specifically to enhance cognition. Its benefits and effects include the following:

  • Improved Memory

Pramiracetam is a proven memory enhancer, extensively tested over several decades and shown effective in both animal studies‍ and clinical trials of young adults with cognitive impairment due to brain injuries.‍

Pramiracetam improves memory both by stimulating the hippocampus, the part of the brain primarily responsible for the creation of new memories and by acting as a potent anti amnesic that reduces forgetfulness. This dual action makes pramiracetam a very effective memory booster. Many users also report significant improvement in recall speed, a claim that has been corroborated by animal studies.‍

  • Increased Alertness and Expanded Learning Capacity

Pramiracetam’s reputation as a general cognitive enhancer that increases alertness and expands learning capacity has made it a popular choice among students seeking a reliable study aid.

Though no human studies on these specific effects have been documented, animal studies indicate that pramiracetam contributes to the mechanisms underlying learning and memory improvement by increasing neuronal type nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity in the hippocampus.‍NOS activity is associated with neural development and brain plasticity, both of which are crucial to all aspects of cognition.

Pramiracetam is also known to increase high-affinity choline uptake in the hippocampus, thus indirectly fueling the production of acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter that is strongly associated with learning and cognition.‍

  • Dementia Treatment

Open-label trials in patients with primary degenerative dementia show that Pramiracetam effectively reversed amnesia, significantly enhancing recall and reducing forgetfulness.

In other studies, which measured the effects of pramiracetam and other racetam-class nootropics on patients with mild to moderate dementia, there were measurable improvements to cognition and memory. These results are likely explained, at least in part, to the nootropic’s enhancement of existing neurotransmitters.

Though pramiracetam has not been approved as an Alzheimer’s treatment in the US, it typically prescribed in Europe for treatment of dementia and other cognitive issues related to Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders.

  • Social Fluency

While there is no documented research on pramiracetam’s effect on social fluency, many users report that it makes them more conversationally creative and socially fluent. This effect may be explained, at least in part, by pramiracetam’s reputed emotional blunting effect,‍which is sometimes described as similar to that of Ritalin. This effect may reduce social anxiety and, in turn, enhance social fluency.

  • Neuroprotective Capabilities

Pramiracetam is known to have considerable neuroprotectant effects, capable of improving cognition in humans who have experienced brain trauma.‍

Studies have also shown it to have a demonstrable neuroprotective effect when used during coronary bypass surgery and in the treatment of cognitive disorders of cerebrovascular origin.

Pramiracetam Dosage for Reference

Pramiracetam typically comes in the form of powder, pre-made capsules, or tablets. Some users report that the powder form has a strong unpleasant taste, and therefore prefer to use the capsule or tablet forms instead.

According to some researchers, the powder and capsule forms may have a faster absorption rate than the tablet form. However, the overall potency and effectiveness are believed to be roughly equivalent across the different forms.

In one of the few trials that have been done so far, a total dose of 1,200 mg was used, divided either into two 600-mg doses or three 400-mg doses spread throughout the day.

As a member of the racetam family of drugs, pramiracetam is believed to depend on choline for its effects, and using it may, therefore, deplete the body’s choline supply. For this reason, it is sometimes recommended to combine racetams with a source of choline, such as alpha-GPC or citicoline. However, this suggestion is based solely on data from one animal study, so this shouldn’t be interpreted as any kind of “official” or “medically-approved” recommendation.

Important Information: Pramiracetam Stack

Pramiracetam works well on its own but may also be a powerful potentiator for other nootropics, increasing their effectiveness. It is a particularly effective potentiator for other racetams, making it a natural addition to most nootropic stacks.

Adding a choline supplement to a pramiracetam stack could have multiple benefits. Not only can it enhance pramiracetam’s effects, but it can also prevent headaches, which are the most commonly reported side effect.Because pramiracetam has such potent effects, it is advisable to use it on its own for a trial period before combining it with other nootropics.

For 2 examples about Pramiracetam stack:

 Pramiracetam and Oxiracetam Stack

Stacking pramiracetam with an energy enhancer like adrafinil or oxiracetam can intensify the mental alertness and extend it over a longer period.

❷Pramiracetam and Aniracetam Stack

Stacking pramiracetam with a powerful anti-anxiety agent like aniracetam can give users heightened focus and concentration while improving mood and reducing feelings of mental strain and anxiety. Some users say this stack promotes social fluency and improves their public performance ability.

Pramiracetam Side Effects

Pramiracetam is usually well tolerated even at high dosages, and very few adverse side effects have been documented.

There are infrequent reports of minor and transitory side effects, including headache, gastrointestinal distress, and feelings of nervousness or agitation.‍In many cases, side effects are associated with high dosage and can be avoided by reducing amounts ingested.

Headache associated with choline depletion is a typical side effect of racetam type nootropics and may be prevented by taking pramiracetam in conjunction with supplemental choline.

Pramiracetam is non-addictive, and no significant adverse effects of long-term use have been documented. There is evidence that pramiracetam may even promote brain health and even restore function in aging brains.

Where is the Best Place to Buy Pramiracetam Online?

While it is true that Piracetam is one of the most promising nootropics, it only has few medical studies and most of it, if not dated, are animal based studies and research.Comparatively, it is less potent compared to other nootropics but its other health benefits are remarkable. It is most beneficial to older adults with mental impairment but it is also recommended to be taken by children and young adults relative to their needs. It is safe to use while most effective only when stacked with other nootropics.

There are many places that have Piracetam for sale online. However, it is best to buy from a website that meets the quality standards in this field.
